Abolition for the People, edited by Colin Kaepernick, is a powerful collection of essays, interviews, and reflections from over 30 activists, organizers, and thinkers who challenge the idea that policing and prisons are necessary for public safety. The book explores abolition not as a single policy demand, but as a people-centered vision for building safer communities through care, accountability, and investment in housing, education, health, and economic opportunity. Written in accessible language and grounded in real-world organizing, Abolition for the People invites readers to imagine—and work toward—a future where safety is created by communities themselves, not enforced through punishment.
