The South Side: A Portrait of Chicago and American Segregation by Natalie Y. Moore offers a lyrical and intelligent exploration of the intersection of race and class in Chicago. Moore, a Chicago native, delves into the contemporary segregation of the city's South Side, illuminating the lives of its residents with a memoirist's eye. Through personal stories and historical context, Moore reveals the impact of Chicago's historic segregation and ongoing policies. The book serves as a necessary and authentic examination of how segregation limits the lives of African-Americans in Chicago, highlighting both the personal and systemic challenges they face.
